Boundless love for animals leads Mickey’s ‘mom’ to leave legacy

Kathy and MickeyIs there anything sweeter than an animal realizing they are safe and loved? Moments like these are what inspired Kathy to make her passion for animals part of her legacy by including a gift to Animal Humane Society in her will.

“I included Animal Humane Society in my will because I’d like my money to do some good after I’m gone and commit to continuing my support of animals in need,” she says.

Kathy shares her own heartwarming story with her most recent adoption.

“In 2018 I adopted Mickey, a 12-year-old black lab, from Animal Humane Society. Unfortunately, he developed pneumonia just one week after coming home and had to spend the weekend at the emergency vet. When I went to get Mickey, he was wary—likely wondering where he was going to land next. I drove Mickey back to our home where he looked around the familiar space and came to stand in front of me, pressing the top of his head into my legs. We just stood there for several moments, motionless. It was possibly the best thank you I’ve ever received. I support AHS to help make moments like that possible for thousands of other people and animals,” Kathy says.
